Shawnigan Area Director's Agenda January 2012

January 2012 looks like a busy month for your new Area Director. The CVRD Board meets on January 11 for regular business and the Chair will be assigning directors to the various Board committees. Among others, I expect to be a member of both the Communications Committee and the Economic Development Commission. On January 17 at 7:30 pm I have been invited to speak at a meeting of the Shawnigan Residents Association at Shawnigan Lake School. If any other organized group in the community would like me to attend one of their meetings, I would be happy to use such an occasion to exchange views and to bring them up to date on plans and progress. I will be a panel member at the Bamberton development public hearing on January 24 and the CVRD Regional Services Committee meets the following day on January 25. The "Advisory Planning Commission" will be re-activated and linked to a "Shawnigan Watershed Roundtable" for which the groundwork will be started. Also during January, a "Village Development Council" will be initiated. Launch groups for both of these projects will be established and tasked with designing the full public engagement process necessary for broad participation in setting terms of reference and direction. I am still working on obtaining a village office to provide for scheduled access and a convenient meeting place and will be setting up a regular monthly Area Director's Evening, meeting at the Shawnigan Community Centre - the first of which will be on Monday, February 6, 2012 in Classroom 2 in the Elsie Miles school building. My CVRD phone number (a blackberry) is 250-510-7082 and my land line in the evenings is 250-733-0771 where messages can be left if needed. Bruce

Area Director’s Meetings: Standard Agenda

Each Director’s meeting will address public questions and comments related to the service mandate of the Cowichan Valley Regional District for which Shawnigan residents and businesses are taxed.  It will also include reports from the Area Director on issues that require public consultation as they are considered for regional district action or that have been subsequently decided by the regional district Board and its Committees.

The meetings will also be available to Shawnigan civic groups as a forum to present current plans, share ideas and showcase projects that deserve wider communication to the public, linkage among each other for mutual support and attention by the CVRD or other government agencies.
